revolutioniseSPORT Empowers Female Engineering Students with Virtual Workshop
revolutioniseSPORT is proud to have been the first company to provide a workshop to the Sydney University Women In Engineering (SUWIE) society in 2023. As a platinum sponsor of the society, we are committed to supporting the next generation of women in engineering, and the WIELead workshop provided an excellent opportunity to connect with the community, share our knowledge and experiences, and learn from the attendees.
The workshop was a great success, with a large virtual crowd in attendance, eager to learn about how our three female representatives entered the industry, what valuable career tips they have, and how they overcame any challenges they faced.
Cass Simonetti, our Chief Product Engineer, spoke about her passion for problem-solving, which she believes can be applied to many industries. Shabrina Yusri, one of our Platform Engineers, talked about how her interests in Taekwondo and engineering go hand in hand at revolutioniseSPORT. Mary Lalee, another Platform Engineer, provided insight into how to maintain connections through networking, highlighting the importance of maintaining key connections and researching people in the industry through platforms such as LinkedIn.
Cass noted to the young women in attendance that workplace culture is a major determinant of success, "Not just your skills, but what you will add to the workplace makes you stand out in an interview." revolutioniseSPORT believes that by fostering a collaborative environment where everyone's contributions are valued, we will continue to revolutionise the sports industry with helpful and effective management tools.
Shabrina emphasised to attendees the importance of interpersonal skills in interviews, saying, "Having interpersonal skills makes you stand out in an interview, and the ability to work with a team is essential."
Mary also stressed the importance of being confident when reaching out to people, stating, "The first message is always the hardest, but don't be afraid. They know you are there for networking, so don't fake what your main goal is."
The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss our successful internship program, of which some previous interns were in attendance. Our program is returning later in the year, and we are committed to ensuring that women make up at least 50% of the intern group. We encourage all women interested in engineering to reach out, network, and take advantage of opportunities like our internship program.
The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for revolutioniseSPORT to connect with the community and showcase our commitment to supporting women in engineering. We thank the Sydney University Women In Engineering for the opportunity and look forward to continuing to support future female graduates gain valuable industry experience.
