About us
Goulburn Valley Golf Croquet Singles 17-18 May 2025
Our Golf Croquet Open Singles tournament was hosted by Deniliquin Croquet Club over two days. It was a very successful event enjoyed by all. We had 40 players from 18 clubs competing – Colac, Deniliquin, Drouin, Drysdale, Echuca Moama, Euroa, Howlong, Kyabram, Mildura, Mooroopna, Morwell, Quarry Hill, Queenscliff, Rich River, RNB, Shepparton, Twin City and Wagga Wagga.
We had some very close results across three divisions.
Div 1 was played in two blocks and block winners Peter Binks (Queenscliff) and Wolfgang Klementz (Drysdale) competed in a final. We were treated to a very close game with Wolfgang winning 7 hoops to 6. Runners up in the blocks were John Young of Mooroopna (one win behind Peter) and Trevor Peters of Shepparton (same number of wins as Wolfgang, 3 hoops behind).
There was only one group for Div 2. Our winner was Bunty Clark of Howlong with 7 games, followed by Dave Maher of Rich River, also on 7 wins, beaten by 3 hoops.
Also in two blocks, Div 3 saw a final between block winners Rod Le Lievre of Twin City, who won all his games on the weekend, and Tony Bull of Deniliquin who had only had one loss. They played late in the day in very cold conditions. Rod was the winner with 7 hoops to 3 after some very close competitions around the hoops. Runners up in Div 3 were John Gatty of Colac whose only loss for the weekend was to Rod Le Lievre, and John Powell of Mildura on the same number of wins (6) as Tony, but 5 hoops behind.
Our thanks go to our hard working President Marg Gleeson and Secretary Pauline Phillips for organising the tournament, Deniliquin Croquet Club and their members for all their efforts in hosting, referees Bev Floyd, Cherie Lessing and Fred Littmann, and all competitors who travelled from far and near to help make the tournament so friendly and competitive.
